Volvo Trucks’ new electric range hasbeen voted International Truck of theYear 2027 by the 24-member jury. Spanning the FH, FM, FMX and FH Aero Electric families, the new generation impressed the jury with its combination of extended range, broad application coverage, energy efficiency and operational flexibility.
The trophy was presented to Roger Alm, President Volvo Trucks, during theNight ofthe Stars Gala evening at IAA Transportation in Hanover, Germany.
With 86 points, Volvo Trucks finished ahead of a highly competitive field comprising the new Ford Trucks F-Max, IVECO S-eWay Tractor, MAN eTGM and Mercedes-Benz eArocs 400. In line with the rules of the International Truck of the Year (IToY), the title is awarded annually to the vehicle introduced in the previous 12 months that has made the greatest contribution to road transport efficiency. The assessment covers a range of criteria, including technological innovation, comfort, safety, driveability, energy efficiency, environmental performance and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
The2027 result marks the fourth consecutive year that a battery-electric truck has won the International Truck of the Year title, underlining the rapid progress being made in zero-tailpipe-emission heavy-duty transport. Four of the five vehicles shortlisted for the 2027 award were battery-electric, while the new Ford F-Max demonstrated that development of the conventional powertrain continues in parallel.
Volvo’s winning new electric range represents a major evolution of the manufacturer’s battery-electric heavy-duty offering. The revised range covers a wide variety of transport applications, from regional and construction operations to demanding long-haul work, while introducing new driveline solutions, greater configuration flexibility andsignificantly extended operating ranges.
The FHAero Electric with extended range offers a claimed range of up to 700km on a single charge, opening the door to amuch broader spectrum of long-distance operations. At the same time, the next-generation FH, FM and FMX Electric Versatile models offer ranges of up to 470km, providing operators with aflexible platform for different transport tasks and duty cycles.
During the jury assessment, members particularly highlighted the way Volvo has developed its electric portfolio beyond asingle vehicle or application. The combination of longer range, different cab and chassis configurations and solutions tailored to long-haul, regional, distribution and construction transport demonstrated how battery-electric technology is increasingly becoming a practical alternative across a broad spectrum of heavy-duty operations.
Florian Engel, Chairman of the International Truck of the Year Jury, summarised: “With its new electric range, Volvo Trucks demonstrates how quickly battery-electric heavy-duty transport is moving from individual applications towards acomprehensive transport solution.”
The award also marks another important milestone for Volvo Trucks in the transition towards zero-tailpipe-emission transport. Having already made history when the Volvo FH Electric became the first battery-electric truck to win the International Truck of the Year title in2024, Volvo now returns to the top of the podium with an electric range designed to cover an even wider spectrum of heavy-duty transport.
