ITOY The New Volvo FH Aero
Back to Industry News

The Volvo FH truck series expands its family with a new model: the Volvo FH Aero. With aerodynamic design and innovative features, the Volvo FH Aero sets new standards in energy efficiency. It is available in four variants, including a biofuel version and the award-winning electric drive version.

Through improved aerodynamics and innovative technologies, such as the new Camera Monitor System, the Volvo FH Aero can achieve an impressive 5 percent reduction in energy consumption and emissions.

Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, states, "The new Volvo FH Aero is our most efficient truck ever. We continue to reduce CO2 emissions across our entire product range. This is a Volvo truck at its best – a safe, beautifully designed, and high-quality truck for demanding long-haul tasks, developed for the success of our customers."

The award-winning Volvo FH Electric, honored as the International Truck of the Year 2024, is now also available in the Aero version – an energy-efficient addition to Volvo's already extensive range of electric trucks. Additionally, the Volvo FH16 impresses with a new highly efficient 780 HP engine, making it the most powerful truck in the industry for the toughest operations.

Improved aerodynamics and reduced energy consumption

Regardless of the chosen powertrain – be it electric, gas, or diesel – all versions of the new Volvo FH Aero are characterized by reduced energy consumption, extended ranges, and superior safety and driving characteristics. The new series will be gradually introduced to the market in the years 2024-2025 with four different versions: Volvo FH Aero, Volvo FH Aero Electric, Volvo FH Aero Gas-Powered, and Volvo FH16 Aero.

Compared to the conventional Volvo FH, the front of the cab in the Volvo FH Aero has been extended by 24 centimeters. This extension significantly contributes to the improved aerodynamics of the truck cab, leading to lower fuel consumption and enhanced driving stability in windy weather. The improved aerodynamics of the Volvo FH Aero Electric also positively impact free-rolling capabilities, allowing for more efficient energy recovery during braking or downhill driving, which is then fed back into the battery for use in the next acceleration or ascent.

Innovative Camera Monitor System

A Camera Monitor System also contributes significantly to improving aerodynamics and safety. Replacing traditional side mirrors, this system greatly expands the driver's field of vision, enhancing safety for both the driver and other road users in close proximity. The camera system positively affects the driver's visibility in adverse weather conditions such as rain, darkness, and direct sunlight, as well as during journeys through tunnels. When driving with a trailer, the camera system features an automatic swivel function that follows the turning trailer.

Other features, characteristics, and benefits of the Volvo FH Aero:

  • Volvo's I-See technology has been further developed to save energy and reduce carbon emissions. It utilizes a cloud-based topographic map to optimize driving behavior and allows more time in cruise control mode, leading to efficient energy savings and a more relaxed driving experience.
  • Innovative brakes with drag-free brake discs extend the lifespan of the brakes while simultaneously reducing energy consumption and emissions.
  • The updated user-friendly infotainment system can be customized to individual needs.
  • An improved sound system, consisting of six high-quality premium speakers, a new amplifier, and a subwoofer, significantly enhances the audio experience.
  • A new integrated navigation system offers improved maps tailored to the specific needs of trucks. Automatic map updates enable efficient cargo delivery.
  • The new interior includes an integrated microwave and USB-C outlets.
  • Volvo's My Business Apps have been introduced in additional markets. This subscription-based service allows customers to download and use business-related apps from various providers on the truck's side display, positively impacting uptime and daily usage.
  • The new tire monitoring service, provided through Volvo Connect, gives fleet managers a comprehensive overview of the truck and trailer, reducing the risk of breakdowns or high additional costs due to a tire puncture.
